Finn-Iran Educational Collaboration
MuslimSpace has become a common web site for Muslim world. Mohamed El-Fatatry, a 21-year-old student who works in Helsinki Finland, is the brains behind this web site. The model of MuslimSpace was MySpace, one of the most popular web sites of the world. MuslimSpace offers free web space for users who want to put up music, photos or videoclips on the Internet. Of course, there are user blogs in MuslimSpace where users can chat about their interests. El-Fatatry has also created the web site DigitalHalal for services such as digital study packages and Islamic Torrents, which mediates islamic videos. The website has three million visitors on an annual basis. Recently, one financial analyst of the Internet in California estimated that the market value of the website is about one million dollar.

The next LIP teacher-in-service training course starts in early 2007. Preparation for the course starts as early as in autumn 2006, because it takes time to create the potential of educational collaboration live online. LIP 6 LION is the first LIP training for teachers having live online sessions, live speech and video in some cases, in addition to asynchronous collaboration. The content of the course is eJournalism, i.e. creative journalistic activities of children and teenagers in the Internet. They can write, draw, sing, take photos and videos, and put their products onto WWW. The children work under guidance of their teachers. Teams of two or more teachers are free to cooperate in the Internet on their own.

Linux Terminal Server Project - LTSP
One initiative, enthusiastically discussed by FinnIran partners, was Linux Terminal server Project LTSP. LTSP was installed in schools in Finland where the COMP@CT network is active, in Vitikkala School in Jämsä and Vihti Secondary and Upper Secondary School. The installment of the system was performed in cooperation with OpinSys, a Finnish company promoting the use of Open source software in education. LTSP means great savings for schools as they can recycle old computers and take free software instead of expensive commercial software into use. Documentation about LTSP can be sent to the Iranian project partners according to their wish.

How about 21st ESP conference in Slovakia March 2007?
Iranian students and teachers were highly interested in pilot projects in science. The 21st conference of the European Schools Project together with COMP@CT takes place in Piestany Spa Slovakia March 7-11, 2007, and it would be a fine place for Iranian partners in finding contacts with science teachers in Europe. Representatives of the Schoolnet Iran have given a fine contribution to ESP conferences since Prague 2004.
